Welcome to the class
Hi, I trust that you've had a fruitful week.
I'll keep this first email short, first Henry and I would like to find out how many of you want to buy a copy of the book "Mustard Seed vs. McWorld"? I believe Henry was able to buy his copy for $20. We're hoping to get a group discount if we have a number of you interested.
I apologize I haven't been able to send this email out earlier, so that we can get the books for this Sunday.
I want to let you know that the author of this book, Tom Sine and his wife Christine run a ministry organization called "Mustard Seed Associates". They have just opened up their web site: www.msainfo.org. We will be directing you to parts of their website throughout the term, as there is a lot of additional information and pointers to books, websites, resources for you to investigate issues on your own. Also, we will have our own little web site, too, in about two weeks. You will be able make your own comments and contribute to discussion, or start questions! More about that later.
In these next couple of weeks, we will continue to address the topic of "Globalization". I'm sure you will have some issues, questions, thoughts, etc. on this topic. What questions do you want to address?
- "Why are these anti-globalization punks causing so much noise (and damage!)?"
- "Are corporations really that evil, as these demonstrators say?"
- "Can a company really be successful (profitable) by being green? by being ethical?"
- "How are we letting globalization strip away our powers as citizens, as communities, as a nation and giving them to big companies?"
- "What does it mean to how we practice our business affairs when we start believing that God desires relationships over efficiency?"
- "What's the difference between a stakeholder and a shareholder? Why does it matter to us?"
I want to leave you with these thoughts:
"He has told you, O mortal, what is good;
and what does the LORD require of you
but to do justice, and to love kindness,
and to walk humbly with your God?"
- Micah 6:8 (NRSV)
and there are timbits this next class... Please meet promptly in our classroom. We want to start at 11:15 for this Sunday.
peace and prayers,
dan
